Chouteau Grotto
Purpose
Founded in 1958, the Chouteau Grotto is a caving club based in Columbia, MO, and a proud chapter of the National Speleological Society. Our mission encompasses:
Exploring, photographing, and conducting or participating in scientific studies related to speleology.
Surveying and mapping caves while fostering positive relationships with landowners and land managers.
Providing information and education on cave conservation, minimal impact caving practices, and caving safety.
Promoting both basic and advanced caving techniques.
Advocating for safe caving practices, preserving cave watershed areas, and conserving caves along with their natural contents.
Get Involved
Official meetings are held in Columbia, MO at 6:30 pm on the first Wednesday of the month. Meetings are held in person and also available via ZOOM. Those curious about caving should check out the beginners page.
**Please note our annual cookout that takes place in October will serve as our official meeting. We will met at the normal time and place in both September and November.
Those who are interested in caving are welcome to attend. For those who would like to go caving, attending meetings in person is strongly encouraged but not necessary.
